A Guide to Heavenly Ski Resort

The Heavenly Ski Resort is located on the Nevada-California border, it has thirty lifts and ninety seven runs and these are spread out between these two states. It is one of the best ski resorts and has four base facilities. In total, the resort is spread across an area of 19 kilometers square, or if you like 4,800 acres.
Heavenly is situated the highest of any other ski resort in South Lake Tahoe. It is owned by Vail Resorts Inc and was purchased by them in 2002. Regardless of the fact that 360" or nine meters of snow falls in this area annually the Heavenly resort also houses one of the US's biggest snowmaking systems so you can rest assured if you want to ski and the snowfall hasn't been so great, you will be catered for.
With ski resorts, the "ski season" generally begins sometime in the middle to late November and lasts until late April, but this time frame is based on the amount of snowfall the area receives. If snowfall isn't very good, the season may begin later or end sooner. It's always a good idea to take a look at weather statistics for the ski resort you plan to visit so you don't end up with your ski trip being cut short or canceled.
If you plan on flying in, the closest airport to Heavenly is in Reno, Nevada. Luckily, the resort has a shuttle bus that runs to and from the airport. There are a variety of accommodations to choose from, which vary enough in style and price to suit every family's needs.
Recently Lake Tahoe approved a 10 year plan to make amendments to Heavenly, they will be continually making improvements to the resort. One of these improvements includes the building of a building called the Powderbowl Lodge. It is a skier bridge that can seat up to 950 people. They are also introducing two new trails, the Skyline Trail and the Skiways Glades and these are 10% steeper than any of the other trails on offer at the moment. They also have a fleet of low emission buses available and an environmentally friendly drainage system in place. So, in addition to Aspen resorts, you might put Heavenly on that list of considerations for your next ski vacation.
